Mars in the Houses

MARS IN 1st HOUSE - With Mars in the 1st house of your chart, you will be aggressive and direct in your approach to life. You will be impatient with any kind of restriction, and may view life as a battle ground in which you have to fight to get what you want. You will have abundant physical energy, and would benefit from a regular routine of physical exercise, otherwise this energy may manifest as impulsiveness and a complete lack of patience with other people. You can express yourself directly and can be rather forceful when expressing your own point of view. You are not the type to sit quietly in a corner, you need to let everybody know that you are around.

MARS IN 2nd HOUSE - The planet Mars in the 2nd house of your chart shows that the satisfaction of your desires, and the establishment of your material security go hand in hand. You know what you want, and intend to do things your own way, but while Mars in this house does not make you overtly aggressive, your stubborn insistence usually means that opposition to your way of doing things ends up getting pushed aside. You will fight for the things that you value with a persistence and determination that is second to none, but you will need to stand aside from the fight sometimes, to allow your value system to evolve, otherwise you may find yourself expending a great deal of energy struggling for something that is no longer appropriate or necessary for you.

MARS IN 3rd HOUSE - With Mars in the 3rd House of your chart, it is in the field of communication and exchange of information with your immediate environment that your self-assertive or aggressive nature is expressed or experienced. You probably have an active and eager mind and a strong verbal and intellectual ability, but that can at times be used as a weapon to mount an attack on others. There is a need to express what you really think, even if this means risking the possibility of upsetting or offending others, since any unexpressed thought or failing can only be repressed for so long before it "blows up," making something of a mess! Your words may have the capacity to arouse others to action, but there may be a tendency to "ram" your opinions down others’ throats. In a sense, your mind is like a sharp instrument or tool which if handled correctly, can cut through just about anything, but if not can be very destructive, both to yourself and others.

MARS IN 4th HOUSE - With Mars in the 4th house of your chart, there is a need to bring to the surface your own repressed aggressiveness and anger. Anything in this house can be hidden from view, but must eventually come out in one form or another. This placement suggests a hidden anger which must be recognised and brought to the surface. On the positive side, you can put a great deal of energy and work into your home environment. It is in your personal and home life that you can show your greatest drive and enterprise. On the other hand, you may tend to vent your aggression and anger on those in your home. This may result from a parent who was experienced as powerful or aggressive and argumentative. You may have to struggle in order to regain your autonomy, and may not be completely successful until you have established a home of your own. Even then you will have to be careful not to express these qualities yourself.

MARS IN 5th HOUSE - With Mars in the 5th houseof your chart, you will have a strong need for some sort of escape from life’s dull routines, a chance to let your hair down and have a good time, and will put a great deal of energy into ensuring that you are able to do this. If this need is blocked or thwarted in some way you can become irritable and bad-tempered. You have a strong independent streak in your approach to love relationships, and this can bring you some conflict, but your need for independence is greater than your need for security in this area.

As a parent, you will also need a degree of independence from your children, and they will have to learn very early to stand on their own two feet. This can cause some conflict and stress in your relationships with your children.

MARS IN 6th HOUSE - With the energetic planet Mars in the house of health and work, you will express enterprise and initiative in your approach to your work. You will not be very tolerant of anyone lording it over you, preferring to be your own boss. You like to get the job done, as soon as possible, and will probably be somewhat impatient with less energetic co-workers, although your own drive and enthusiasm could act to spur them on. You will be rather fastidious about your own personal hygiene and concerned with maintaining the health and efficiency of your physical body.

You will probably release any anger and aggression through plunging into your work and clearing up any jobs that need to be done, but you need to avoid the danger of venting your frustrations and anger on co-workers and employees. However, if you do not express this energy in some way, the build up of tension could take a heavy toll on your body.

MARS IN 7th HOUSE - The planet Mars, representing the self-assertive and aggressive urge is in the 7th house of your chart, the house of relationships. This suggests that you will meet a certain amount of tension and conflict in your relationships with others. There is a danger that you will vent your anger on those closest to you, or subtly arouse others to anger so that you have an excuse to release your own built up aggression. On the more positive side, you are willing to stand up for the rights of others and to fight against injustice in whatever form.

Planets in the 7th houseoften represent qualities that we seek in a partner. You may be attracted to a partner who expresses Martian qualities of boldness and daring, or anger and aggressiveness, at least in your first major relationship. Marriage may be stormy and full of strife or it may be an exciting and rewarding relationship, if each of you is able to respect the other’s independence.

MARS IN 8th HOUSE - Fiery Mars in the 8th houseof your chart indicates a deep and passionate nature. You invest a great deal of energy in close emotional relationships, but there may be a tendency to attempt to control your partner, resulting in battles and possible emotional violence if Mars is badly aspected. In business partnerships also, your hard-hitting and determined approach can be an asset; but you could take this too far, being overly aggressive in business could lead to unpleasant disputes with your partners. In these cases you will try to shift the blame, but if you are honest with yourself you have to admit that no-one could make you do anything you didn’t want to do anyway.

MARS IN 9th HOUSE - With Mars in the 9th houseof your chart, you have a strong desire to pursue goals that are beyond the confines of your day to day existence. You have foresight and vision and you are able to communicate your understanding and insight to others in an effective manner. Through this ability, you could achieve success as a teacher, lawyer or writer. Expanding your mind through travel, philosophy or higher education allows you to satisfy a strong desire for a deeper understanding of the meaning of life.

However, there may be a danger of pursuing your visions too aggressively, and using your philosophical or religious beliefs to justify any means to achieve your ends, at the expense of others.

MARS IN 10th HOUSE - Mars in the 10th houseof your chart indicates that you can put a great deal of energy and drive into a career and the achievement of worldly goals and ambitions. You will seek a career that will allow you to channel your self-assertive and aggressive drives in a productive way. You may regard authority figures as powerful and aggressive, or threatening in some way, and either passively do what you feel they expect of you, or rebel violently, thus provoking conflict with such people. You will need to work to gain a position of some kind of authority in order for you to feel confident enough to stand up for yourself.

MARS IN 11th HOUSE - Mars in the 11th house directs your self-assertive and aggressive drives into the area of the chart concerned with friends and group associations. You will need a wide circle of friends as an outlet for the impulsive and excitement seeking energy of Mars. You have a natural ability to rouse your friends into action and get them going, on the other hand, if you are not expressing this energy yourself you may depend on them to give you the impetus and drive necessary to achieve your goals. You will be the first to jump to the defence of a friend who is under attack, but at other times you may be the first to initiate an attack against someone you feel has done something wrong.

You can work with energy and enthusiasm toward some future oriented goal, particularly as part of a group working for the good of the whole. You can be a source of energy and direction for such a group but your insistence on maintaining a high degree of autonomy may cause conflicts with other members.

MARS IN 12th HOUSE - The action of Mars in the 12th house, is to a large extent unconscious and difficult to express overtly. You may have a vague sense of irritation or anger, the source of which you cannot put your finger on, a feeling that life has dealt you a bad deal or does not live up to your expectations and desires. You are not fully conscious of many of your motivations, and unable to express your own aggression directly, there is a danger of provoking others into expressing your anger for you, or of expressing it at inappropriate moments. With Mars in the house of self-undoing, you have to beware that you do not become your own worst enemy.

You are able to place the needs of another person or group before your own and fight willingly on their behalf, at these times you can display your Martian energy in its purest form, for good or ill. Your willingness to give over your individual ego to a cause comes from a deep-seated conviction that we are all a part of the greater whole, and sometimes the needs of the greater whole are more important than the needs of the individual. However, you need to be very discriminating about the nature of the group or cause to which you give yourself, since you are very sensitive to aggressive vibes in the atmosphere around you, making you susceptible to the influence of group hysteria or mob violence.
